So what’s the easiest and most convenient way to get to Medellin from the airport? For us, it’s still to hire a private local driver you can trust to drive you from the airport to your destination in the city. However, if you failed to do so before your flight, there are still some cheap and easy ways! The route from the airport to Medellin also got much shorter because of the Oriente tunnel. This 8.2- km tunnel reduced the travel time from 50 to 18 minutes! Please note that there are two airports in Medellin. In this article, we’ll share different ways to get to Medellin from Jose Maria Cordova International Airport. We listed them from the cheapest to the most expensive ways to get there.

1. Take the bus

This is the cheapest mode of transportation from the international airport to Medellin. The buses from the airport will take you directly to Mall of San Diego. It’s fast, easy, comfortable, and only costs 10,000 COP (3 USD)! If you ask nicely, the bus might even take you to Exposiciones Metro Station if you need to take the metro. From Mall of San Diego, you can take a taxi to your accommodation which will cost around 10,000 COP depending on where you’re staying. They operate 24 hours a day from the airport to Medellin. From Medellin to the airport, they operate from 3:30 am to 10:00 pm.

 

2. Colectivo or Shared Taxis from the Airport

This is not Uber Pool! Yes, you can share a taxi with other passengers from Jose Maria Cordova International Airport. You can take this white taxi and split the cost between 3 to 4 passengers. Unlike regular taxis though, they will only take you to Mall of San Diego. From there, you can take another taxi or walk to the metro to get to your accommodation. The shared taxi fare costs 18,500 COP per person from the airport. They also usually wait to fill all the slots so keep that in mind when estimating your travel time.

 

3. Airport Taxis

Hiring a taxi is the most expensive, but also the most convenient mode of transportation from the airport to Medellin. Unlike with the previous options, they will drop you off at the exact address of your accommodation. Thankfully, they have a fixed rate from the airport to Medellin. Taking a taxi will cost you 75,000 COP. This includes the toll fees so do not let them fool you into giving an extra for the toll.
