The 400-year-old structures and beautiful beaches of Cartagena make it a must-visit whether you are only touring Colombia or an expat who lives here. Here are different ways you can get to Cartagena from Medellin (or from Medellin to Cartagena).
By Plane
First, the fastest and most convenient way to get to Cartagena from Medellin is by plane. Traveling domestically in Colombia will not set you back a lot. Roundtrip tickets from Medellin to different cities normally don’t exceed 150 USD. Latam and Viva Air Colombia offer some of the cheapest flights within Colombia. However, do note that prices depend on the season and day you’re traveling. Furthermore, the flight takes around one hour and 10 minutes from Medellin’s José María Córdova International Airport.

By Bus
You can take day or night buses to Cartagena from Medellin if you do not mind traveling for 13 to 14 hours. Expreso Brasilia has routes from Medellin to Cartagena. Their buses have wifi, charging outlets, restrooms, TV, and movies, among others. The one-way bus ticket costs 116,000 COP (47 USD).
Cartagena routes are at Medellin’s Terminal Norte (North Bus Terminal). Other bus companies you can book with include Rapid Ochoa, Coomotor, Sotrauraba, Omega, among others.
